Please Note: All of the products I mention are ones that I bought myself, and I am not affiliated with any of these companies, nor am I being compensated by any of them.   I did receive $7.50 off of my Simpy Straws order because I did take the pledge against plastic straws (not because I have this blog).

Just Added: A Peek Into My Cabinet!

Hello!

Do you want to know what products I use that are nontoxic, natural, and/or organic?  I finally made an all-inclusive list on a new page of my blog called A Peek Into My Cabinet!

Check it out here: https://sunnymothernature.wordpress.com/a-peek-into-my-cabinet/

I will be continually updating it.  So you’ll always be able to know what I am currently using!

What do you think of my list: Do you think it’s useful?  Do you love it?  Think it’s too long? 😉  Or am I missing a category you’d like me to add?  Let me know in the comments!

Have a sunny day!

Keep a Lookout…

Hi everyone!

So I wanted to let you all know that I am working on a full list of products~ ones that I used to use, what I am using now, and if I do not completely love the product I’m using now, what product I want to try.

I feel that my blog shows my journey of trying to find more natural and organic products.  Therefore, some products I initially thought were “natural” and “healthy” I actually no longer believe really are.  However, I do not want to just take down these reviews because I know that they still do help some people out, and that some people just do not focus on whether a product is natural or not, but rather whether the product works.  Also, I feel that to show my journey of trying to find healthy products that it is important to keep these posts up.

So, the new list is the solution!  Keep checking back for it~ I hope to have it finished and up by the end of today! 🙂

What are your thoughts~ should I keep these posts up, or should I take them down?

Have a sunny day!

~Kim

UPDATE: I just posted my list of products on a new page on my blog called A Peek Into My Cabinet!  Check it out 🙂

My Skincare Routine for Clear Skin Naturally

Hi!

Today, I wanted to share with all of you what I use on my face~ everything I use is all natural, and help keep my skin acne free. None of my skin secrets have any chemicals, detergents, artifical fragrances, etc. and, along with cutting out processed foods and sugar, are the reasons why my skin is clear!  The fact that my skin is clear now, and never was when I was using Proactiv, Biore, Clean & Clear, etc. just goes to show that going back to nature is overall better for your health, and your skin!

So let’s begin!

My All Natural Skincare Routine for Acne Prone Skin

My Cleanser is: Honey!

For those of you who viewed My Favorite Natural Products of 2o11 video/post, this will come as no surprise.

Honey is the most wonderful “cleanser” I have used for a long, long time.  It is antibacterial.  Therefore, it helps to heal your acne, and also does not contribute to your acne.  Those are two things that are very hard for me to find from a cleanser.

Honey also does not dry out my skin.  It is actually quite moisturizing!  Another wonderful thing about honey is that it is water soluble.  This means that once water touches the honey, it starts to dissolve.  Honey leaves no residue on my face, which is another plus.

How to: Just take about half a spoonful of honey and wet your face.  Then, take small amounts of the honey and start rubbing the honey all over your face.  Finally, rinse away!  It’s easy, and takes the same amount of time as a regular cleanser, without all of the harsh chemicals, detergents, etc.

If you would like to see a small explanation of how to use honey as a cleanser, please watch My Favorite Natural Products of 2o11 video 🙂

The Requirements: Please use either local pure honey (support local beekeepers!) or USDA certified organic honey.  A study was done within the past few months that confirmed that a significant amount of regular honey from grocery stores and stores like Wal-mart, Walgreens, CVS, etc. are ultra filtered honey~bottom line this means that it is either not honey at all, or honey from China (which can be diluted~with high fructose corn syrup, rice syrup, etc.~, or it can be contaminated~with antibiotics, lead, etc.~, or it can be not honey at all).  There is no reason to ultra filter honey other than to hide where that “honey” is coming from.  So please use local pure honey or USDA certified organic honey!  This way it is definitely honey 🙂

Precaution: Please do not try using honey if you are allergic!

My Acne and Acne Scar Treatment: Limes!

Limes are a wonderful little fruit, and are just as wonderful as a night treatment for healing acne and fading acne scars.  I found using limes to not dry out my skin, and definitely helped lessen the appearance of my scars on my face over a few months.  Lemons could also be used instead of limes, but I found lemons to dry out my skin, and also irritated my skin (which limes did not).

How to: After you have cleansed your skin, cut a lime until you have one small slice (I typically would cut a lime in half, and then cut one of those halves into 4 pieces.  I would then place all of the lime except for one slice into the fridge to use later).  Take one of those slices and squeeze the juice into a small bowl.  Then, dab a clean finger into the bowl and gently pat onto any acne and acne scars on your face.  Repeat until lime juice is on all of your acne and acne scars.  Let dry.

The Requirements: Preferably use an organic lime, but conventional limes work as well.  Also, please use fresh lime juice.  It is unknown how long presqueezed lime and lemon juices have been in those plastic containers.

Precaution: Only use this acne and acne scar treatment at night.  Lime juice and lemon juice both photosensitize your skin (make your skin more sensitive to sunlight).

My Moisturizer: Argan Oil

Yes, an oil is my moisturizer, and yes, I do have acne prone skin.  I know this sounds ridiculous, but it does help.  Argan oil has helped to balance my skin, moisturizes wonderfully, and does not cause acne!

How to: After cleansing your face and applying the lime juice, simply dampen your fingers and your face (where you are going to apply the argan oil).  Take one or two drops (not dropper-fulls, but drops) of oil onto your fingers.  Rub gently between your fingers and then dab onto the skin where it is needed.  You can apply one or two more drops onto your face if needed.

Requirements: Preferably use organic argan oil.  If it is cold pressed, and better yet, the first cold pressing, it has even higher amounts of essential fatty acids than compared to just refined and pure argan oil (which would be cheaper).

Also, there is a difference in quality~ the Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil which is what I use on my face (and is the first cold pressing) feels much lighter on my skin and soaks into my skin quicker than the ArganUSA Argan Oil (which I use on the rest of my body because it is less expensive, but it is not the first cold pressing) feels just a little bit heavier and takes a little bit longer to soak in.

I personally recommend Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Oil for the face, or any USDA Certified Organic Argan Oil.

Precautions: With argan oil, more is not better~Less is more in this situation.  Use only a few drops at first, then see if you need more.  Also, either your fingers or your skin needs to be damp for the oil to penetrate into the skin.  Otherwise, you will feel you need more argan oil, and it will take much longer to be absorbed by the skin.

And that’s it!  I hope these skincare ideas help you achieve clear skin!  I love these, and have been using them for many months.

Are you going to try any of my suggestions, or do you have any questions about my tips?  Leave a comment below!

And don’t forget to subscribe if you enjoy my posts~ it makes me happy ❤

Have a sunny day!

~Kim

Please note: I am not affiliated with Josie Maran Cosmetics, they did not send any products to me for review, and I am not being compensated by them.  I have bought so many of their argan oil bottles by now, that I lost count 🙂  (I’ve been using their argan oil as my sole moisturizer for over a year now)

My Top 4 Makeup Brushes- Featuring Ecotools and Bare Escentuals

Hi beauties!

It’s cloudy here, but hopefully Mother Nature has made it sunny near you!

Today I wanted to tell you about my favorite brushes.  I have various makeup brushes, but these are the four that I constantly reach for!

My Favorite Eyeshadow Brush: Bareminerals Shape & Define Double-Ended Brush (Far right)

(The eyeliner side)

This is just a wonderful brush.  The shaping side allows you to blend eyeshadows with ease on your lid.  Then the eyeliner side gives a precise application of eyeliner, or- how I typically use it- to apply white/light cream colored eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eye.  A light colored shadow on the inner corner of your eye helps brighten the eye area (which I love!)

My Favorite Powder Brush: Ecotools Bamboo Blush Brush (Second from right)

My favorite powder brush is not actually called a powder brush.  Instead, it is Ecotools Bamboo Blush Brush.  Their powder brush was just too big for me.  So, I decided to try their blush brush as a powder brush.  It is wonderful!  The bristles are so soft and just glide across my face.  It applies enough powder, but not too much that you can see it.  What is also nice about this Ecotools blush brush is that it has taklon bristles that are cruelty free, has a recycled aluminum ferrule, and a bamboo handle.  So, the Ecotools brushes really are good for you and Mother Nature!

(If you’re wondering how the Ecotools blush brush performs as a blush brush, I do like it for that.  Yet, it does deposit much more product at once compared to other blush brushes.  If you want a stronger blush look, this is a very nice blush brush.  Otherwise, you have to be careful how much blush is getting on the brush.  So, if you want a more natural look, or are just starting to use blush, I would recommend a stippling brush for blush instead.  It is more fool proof.)

My Favorite Blush Brush: Bareminerals Feather Light Brush (Second from left)

I had roscea from when I was about nine years old until high school.  So, I was very reluctant to use blush until this past year.  This brush makes applying blush super easy.  With this stippling brush, the blush looks natural, but you can still see it.  Perfect!

My Favorite Liquid Foundation Brush: Bareminerals Light Stroke Brush (Left)

This brush allows you to have complete control when you are applying liquid foundation.  It gives you a nice coverage without looking cakey.

Those are my four favorite makeup brushes!  I hope they give you ideas for what brushes you can use.  And remember: just because a brush is advertised as meant for a specific purpose (ex. powder brush, blush brush, etc.) does not mean that you have to use it for that purpose.  Play around and see what brushes you personally like for different types of makeup!

Have a sunny day!

~Kim

Please note: These three Baremineral brushes all came in kits I purchased a couple of years ago.  The Ecotools brush I received free- not due to my blog but because I participated in their Live Beautifully Campaign last year.  I was not contacted by either Bareminerals or Ecotools, and I am not being compensated for this post.  I just love these brushes and wanted to share them with you! 🙂

The Ecotools Blush Brush averages between $7 and $10, and is available (including but not limited to) at Target, Walgreens, Walmart, and Amazon.  The Bareminerals Feather Light Brush is available at www.qvc.com for $24.  The Bareminerals Light Stroke Brush is available at www.qvc.com and www.bareescentuals.com for $20.  The Bareminerals Shape & Define Brush is no longer available (there are some on ebay though)- but you can buy the eyeliner brush separately for $12 at www.bareescentuals.com.  For the other side of this brush, look for a tapered blending eyeshadow brush. 🙂

My Favorite Natural Products of 2011!

Hello!  I hope the sun is shining in your area of the world today!

So, I decided to do another video~ this time showcasing my favorite products of 2011 that are all natural products!  I try very hard to find and use products that are good for my health as well as good overall products.  These are all of my favs and I wanted to share them with you!  I love all of these products that I just keep buying more of them when I run out. 🙂

And yes, as I mention in the video, many of these products are the only product in their category that I use!  I didn’t realize how true this was until I watched this video 🙂

I’m probably not going to post all of my youtube videos on my blog since some ideas I’m thinking about doing are maybe more youtubeland than my blog.  However, if any of you would like to see them, you can either go to my youtube channel www.youtube.com/sunnymothernature, or if you would prefer me just posting them on this blog too, let me know!  🙂

The products I mentioned in this video are:

1) Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butters in Sweet Citrus and Vanilla & Apricot (Available at Sephora.com, QVC.com, and Josiemarancosmetics.com typically for $35 each)

2) Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil (Available at websites mentioned above; 1.7 oz for $48; 0.5 oz for $14; or 4oz for $96)

3) ArganUSA Argan Oil 32 oz (Available at zamourispices.com for $100 in plastic, or $110 in glass)

4) Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in Lavender and Unscented Baby-Mild (Available at Target and drbronner.com for about $4.49 each)

5) Dr. Bronner’s Organic Hand Sanitizing Spray USDA certified organic (Available at drbronner.com for $3.99; it was available at Target, but I don’t believe it is anymore)

6) Josie Maran Argan Lip Gloss (These are only available at josiemarancosmetics.com for $18.  QVC and Sephora only have her Natural Volume Lip Glosses which I have not tried)

7) And lastly- Local Pure Honey!  or USDA Certified Organic Honey

I hope you enjoyed this video~ If you have any questions, or want to request a video, please leave them in the comment section below! 🙂

Also, check out my blog at http://www.sunnymothernature.wordpress.com

(I’m still using my laptop to record, so I know the quality isn’t the best.)

FTC: I bought all of the products mentioned in this video myself, except for this round of honey which was a Christmas present from my sister and brother-in-law, and this round of the Dr. Bronner products were Christmas presents from my parents 🙂  I do typically buy my products either in kits, or when there are sales, to save money though.  Also, I am not affiliated with any of these companies, nor was I contacted by any of them.  I just love all of these products and wanted to share them with you!

Have a sunny day!

Choose to Live Beautifully Campaign

Hello!

I wanted to share this wonderful campaign that EcoTools is doing called Choose to Live Beautifully with you!

The first time I had ever heard of EcoTools was once last year when I was in Wegmans.  When I saw these EcoTools makeup brushes made of recycled aluminum, bamboo handles, and synthetic bristles I knew that the next time I needed brushes I would be buying them from this company.

Fast forward to yesterday when I randomly came across this awesome little campaign by EcoTools called Choose to Live Beautifully (I don’t quite remember how I ended up finding it~ all I know is that I started out looking for bamboo toothbrushes 🙂 ).

What you do is you send in a  new or used beauty product (limit two products per person) and you will then receive a coupon (up to 2 coupons) for a free product, worth up to $7.99!   And you know what else?  All donated products are recycled by Recyclebank!

The only thing I can’t tell you is when this campaign ends~I searched all over and it does not seem to be listed anywhere.  However, I believe it is by the end of this month (the three stops they are making during this campaign around the USA are all this week~ two have already happened).

Now if only their products were made in the USA and not in China, I would absolutely love this company! (I believe that since we are trillions of dollars in debt to China that I personally do not want to add to that debt.  This is the reason why I try to buy as little made in China as possible).

Some examples of beauty products you can send in are cosmetic brushes, body washes, bath sponges, body lotions, body scrubs, body butters, body mists, and hand creams.

Please mail your beauty products, along with your full name and your mailing address to:

Choose to Live Beautifully Campaign

c/o Skirt Public Relations

2320 North Damen Ave, Suite 2D

Chicago, Illinois 60647

If you would like more information on the Choose to Live Beautifully Campaign, please go to http://choosetolivebeautifully.com, or go to http://www.ecotools.com.

This is a wonderful way for you, and for you to be kind to Mother Nature, to recycle one or two beauty products that have not worked out for you, in one way or another.  Just please, make sure they are products that you would have probably thrown away, not products that you would have used, but you are going to send in just to receive the coupons.  Both my mom and I found products that we were planning to throw away before I found out about this campaign.  So, we happily sent them to this campaign instead of sending them to landfills.  Mother Nature will love you for it!

So, make sure you send in a product, or two, to this campaign soon if you want to be a part of this!

Have a sunny day!

~Kim

Please Note: I am not affiliated with EcoTools, or with their Choose to Live Beautifully Campaign, nor am I being compensated by them.  I will be receiving two coupons from them, but they are from me participating in this campaign, not because I have this blog.

Sunny Mother Nature Loves Josie Maran Cosmetics Bear Naked Wipes!

Bear Naked Wipes

“Erase your face, not the polar bear race!”

I love this phrase! 🙂

It is always fun when I find something that I absolutely love and I want to share with other people and the Josie Maran Cosmetics Bear Naked Makeup Wipes are no exception!

I have tried the Almay Makeup Remover Towelettes before and these were a major disappointment.  However, the Josie Maran Cosmetics wipes are far, far superior!

The first thing I noticed with the Josie Maran Cosmetics Bear Naked Wipes is that they smelled really good.  It is a nice, light citrus scent.  I’ve read some reviews that don’t like it, but I really do.

The Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes also leave my skin feeling soft and not stripped.  One of the reasons why I didn’t like the Almay makeup towelettes is that they would leave my skin feeling very, very odd.  I’ve been trying to figure out how exactly to describe how my skin felt with these wipes and I’m struggling with words.  They didn’t make my skin burn or sting, but they did irritate my skin.  Not only that though, they would leave my skin with this really weird and uncomfortable sensation.  I hated it!!

The Bear Naked wipes are the first ones that do not leave my skin feeling that way!  They are really gentle on my skin.

They are also paraben free, fragrance free, cruelty-free, petrochemical free, vegan, and biodegradable!  All of these make me feel really good to use these on my face!  I try to especially avoid parabens, fragrance (as an ingredient listing), and petrochemicals, as well as use products that are cruelty-free.

Now, they don’t take off waterproof makeup, nor do they really take off eye makeup in general.  So, I just use an eye makeup remover in addition to these.  However, I had to do this with the Almay makeup remover towelettes too, so this wasn’t a huge deal to me.  They do take off my normal makeup really nicely though!  I do wash my face though after I use these.  I heard on various youtube beauty videos that it was recommended to take your makeup off first and then wash your face.  Otherwise, your face wouldn’t get cleaned.  (They recommended if you didn’t have makeup remover to wash your face twice.  Once to remove the makeup and the second time to cleanse your skin).  I have been noticing that my face isn’t breaking out as much since I’ve been following this routine.  If just using a makeup wipe works for your skin though, and it doesn’t make you break out, go for it!

They are $12 for 30 wipes.  This is more expensive than drugstore makeup wipes (I think I paid $5 or $6 for the Almay ones), but they are around the same price as other non-drugstore brands.  You can buy these from www.josiemarancosmetics.com, www.sephora.com, or www.qvc.com

Josie Maran Cosmetics even gives a portion of each of these makeup wipes sold to help save the polar bears!  They give the portions to the National Resources Defense Council’s Polar Bear SOS initiative.  So, you are doing something good for your face and polar bears!  If you would like to learn more about this initiative, please go to www.polarbearsos.org.

So, if you want to try some natural makeup wipes, try Josie Maran Cosmetics Bear Naked Wipes!  They work nicely and help save polar bears, which you and Mother Nature will love!

Have a sunny day!

~Kim

Please Note: I am not affiliated with Josie Maran Cosmetics, Almay, or the National Resources Defense Council.  None of these companies are compensating me for my review.  Almay and the National Resources Defense Council did not send me products to try.

Josie Maran Cosmetics did send my mom and me some products at the beginning of December 2010, but not for review (I didn’t have my blog at this time.  I started it at the end of Dec.).  My mom ordered some Josie Maran Body Butters for me for Christmas (because of my cracking hands) during their Cyber Monday sale and Josie Maran Cosmetics accidently missed our order.  So, they sent some products as little gifts to us to make up for it, and two of those products were travel sized Bear Naked wipes.  My mom and I were amazed at their generosity!  However, this has not swayed my opinion of this product.  These are my honest opinions and thoughts.  I bought the Almay makeup remover towelettes myself.  My mom did buy me two full sized Josie Maran Cosmetics Bear Naked Wipes as early Birthday presents for me too because of how much I love these! Thanks Mom! 🙂

Josie Maran Cosmetics Argan Tinted Moisturizer Review with Sunny Mother Nature

Tinted Moisturizer

Ever since I first heard about, and began to use, Josie Maran Cosmetics, I’ve been wanting to try their Argan Tinted Moisturizer.

I had never used a tinted moisturizer before and the only type of foundation I had used since I was 14 was Bare Escentuals’ foundation in fair (which I no longer used because the formula seems to have changed and no longer works for me).  So, I was curious!  I decided to buy it finally last fall during Sephora’s F&F sale.

Josie Maran’s Tinted Moisturizer is supposed to be a moisturizer, a sheer foundation, and a SPF all in one (like any other tinted moisturizer).

I had really high hopes for this product!  I used this on and off (you’ll find out why soon enough) for four months.  Here’s my thoughts on it.
Pros:

1. I love the SPF 30!  There are very few foundations, tinted moisturizers, etc. that have SPF 30.  Most of the time you’re lucky if it’s a SPF 20.  But Josie Maran Cosmetics went above and beyond and gave their tinted moisturizer SPF 30 which I love and greatly appreciate.
2. It gives a nice finish.  I did really like the look of my skin when I had this product on.  I did still have to use concealer over it (like most tinted moisturizers).
3.  They tell you what the ingredients in the tinted moisturizer are on their website and have little symbols to tell you what it does and doesn’t have in it!
The Cons:

1. My skin broke out every time I used it.  It must be at least one ingredient that they have in more than one of their products because I’ve tried a fair amount of their products and about half of them have made my skin break out.  This disappointed me.  Even if I only used this one day and then did not use it for days after, it still broke me out.  Whether I did add a drop or two of argan oil, or when I didn’t, it just did not matter.  It still broke me out.
2. The lightest shade is too dark for my skintone.  I am fair (aka very pale), so I tried the color Creme, which is supposed to be for fair complexions.  However, that color was really too dark for me, no matter how much or little product I used.  They only have 5 shades, so they really need to expand a little.
3. It is a thick tinted moisturizer.  For some, this may be a positive.  However, for me, it is so thick of a consistency that I actually needed to add a couple drops of Josie Maran Argan Oil to it in my palm, mix it, and then apply it to my skin.  This way it gave a nice coverage.  When I didn’t mix in a couple drops, it would not spread evenly over my skin and I ended up looking streaky and kind of orange.
4. The packaging is not recyclable.  No tubes can be recycled where I live (maybe they can be recycled where you live?), so I feel that their company’s ideals don’t follow through with the tinted moisturizer’s packaging.
5. It has a chemical sunscreen, not a physical sunscreen.  Again, this could be a positive or a negative to you, depending on which you look for.  However, I personally like to have physical sunscreens over chemical (but I was looking over that with this product because I thought I would really like it).
6. It is kind of expensive.  You receive 1.7 oz. for $38.  Compared to some other brands, I guess it’s kind of in the middle.  However, $38 for any foundation or tinted moisturizer is more on the expensive side for me.  It just really depends on whether you personally feel $38 is a decent price, or too expensive.
Conclusion:
Overall, I did really like this product, but the two things that stopped me from using this product (and I ended up giving this tinted moisturizer to my mom) were that it was breaking me out and that it was at least one shade too dark for my skin.  My mom is about one shade darker than me (she is considered light complexion).
However, my mom really likes Josie Maran’s Argan Tinted Moisturizer!  So, if you have light skin, (but not fair), or darker, and you don’t have acne-prone skin, I do really recommend this product for you.  Sadly, it just does not agree with my skin, or skintone.  I did love the finish this product gave though.
If you are interested in buying Josie Maran’s Argan Tinted Moisturizer, you can buy it at www.josiemarancosmetics.com, or www.sephora.com.
I still love Josie Maran Cosmetics, even though this product didn’t work out for me!!  I like what they are trying to do and what they stand for.  And there are many other Josie Maran Cosmetics products that I absolutely love~ including the 100% pure argan oil, the whipped argan oil body butters and the argan lip glosses!
As for me, I am still on the hunt for a good tinted moisturizer, or foundation that does not cause breakouts.  Have any of you tried Josie Maran’s Tinted Moisturizer?  What did you think?  Do any of you have suggestions for a natural/organic tinted moisturizer or foundation?  Please leave a comment below!  I need suggestions 🙂
 Have a sunny day!
  ~Kim
Please Note: I am not affiliated with Josie Maran Cosmetics or Sephora.  Neither company sent me this product to try, nor did they compensate me for this review.  I bought this product myself from Sephora during one of their sales.

Sunny Mother Nature Says Think Quality, Not Quantity

Want to do something for your health, your well-being, and your environment (at home, work, etc.) that will also help Mother Nature?  Think quality over quantity!

The ads everywhere, the celebrities selling products, TV shows, movies, etc. all seem to tell us that it is good to have more things.  Things will make our world and lives better.  Yet, is this really the case?

The more things, products, items we have in our homes really do not bring us any more comfort than if we have less.  We want to think that by buying one more sweater, or one more beauty product, it will make us happier and feel more at balance.  But, it doesn’t.

I believe that we all want to be happy and have healthy lives and well-beings.  We can accomplish this, and one of the things that can help is by realizing when you don’t need anything.  And if you don’t need anything, don’t buy anything.  This will help us keep our minds, homes, and environments the most positive and balanced environments.

But, for those times when you do need to buy something (and don’t confuse need with want) thinking Quality Over Quantity can help.  When you go to buy a product, item, etc., don’t buy the cheapest thing because it is the cheapest.  Instead, buy things for their quality.  Buy consciously.  Don’t buy for the sake of buying.

Does it really make you happier to have one moisturizer that you love, or ten moisturizers that are only ok, BUT they were cheap?  The answer is easy, the one moisturizer that you love, wins!  That one moisturizer even takes up less space than those ten!  So, quality over quantity helps to declutter too!

If we follow quality over quantity, we will all have the items we need in our lives, like hygiene products, cleaning supplies, healthy foods, etc. but without the excess of wanting/ “needing” more of everything.

We will have less cluttered homes with only the things we need for life, with less excess, less waste, and we, along with Mother Nature, will be happier with less things in life.

Afterall, lives were not meant to be measured by the things we have.

Have a sunny day everyone!

Why to Avoid Fragrance and Parfum as Ingredients

Sunny Mother Nature says to avoid “fragrance!”

Try to avoid “fragrance” or “parfum” in the list of ingredients on your body washes, lotions, perfumes, face washes, body mists, even sometimes laundry detergents, etc.!

I touched on this topic in my earlier post Sunny Mother Nature Loves Castile Liquid Soap.  The idea that the FDA does not require companies to tell you what exactly they’re placing in their products under the “fragrance” label.  If you have an allergic reaction?  Too bad, you’ll never know what the exact ingredient it was you had a reaction too.  Good luck avoiding hundreds of ingredients you don’t even know of.

Yes, hundreds.  They can use hundreds of extra ingredients not listed on their product’s label if they list it as an ingredient under “fragrance.”

Not only that, but they could be harmful ingredients, like parabens, carcinogens, etc. and we won’t know.  It really is a scary thought to think about.

How many of those unknown ingredients are really good for us, or for Mother Nature?

I’m betting that if they were “good” ingredients, like argan oil, aloe vera, fruit extracts, etc. they wouldn’t be putting them under “fragrance”~ they would be using them in their ads and advertising them to push sales!

So, what to do?  It is a simple idea, but possibly difficult to follow~ Don’t buy any product that has “fragrance” or “parfum” in their ingredient listing!

This requires every one of us looking at those labels every time we buy something.  I’ll admit that there are times where I forget to and after buying a product, I’ll look at its ingredients.  Sadly, I’ll more often than not see “fragrance” along with all those other unpronounceable words.

I think partly the companies like using fragrance as a listing to fool us into thinking that because it’s the fragrance, then that must be an okay ingredient, when really it may not be so “okay,” or even safe for us.

When products have a fragrance, it’s ok, as long as those products list all of their ingredients.  To make this easier, go for natural products~most of the time they openly tell you every ingredient that is in their products.  However, be careful~  Even some natural companies state “fragrance” on their ingredient lists!

I believe that if a company does truly care about their consumers’ health, then they will list all of their ingredients.  If they do not list ALL of their ingredients, then just walk away from that company.  Our health is worth it!

So, read those ingredients and try to avoid “fragrance” in your products!

Mother Nature will love you a little more even if you just try to avoid “fragrance.”  After all, any ingredients that aren’t good for you, aren’t good for Mother Nature either!

So, go out and live a little greener and live a little sunnier!
